Free Read of the Week 3/3

Friends,

The Rover‘s third Free Read is our own Father Bill Miscamble’s For Notre Dame: Battling for the Heart and Soul of a Catholic University.

Fr. Miscamble, one of the Rover‘s faculty advisors, is a longstanding champion of the university’s Catholic identity. His latest book, released last summer, is an excellent collection of essays concerning the Catholic character of our beloved university.

From the book blurb by St. Augustine’s Press:

For Notre Dame gathers together the important contributions of a devoted Holy Cross priest to the continuing debate over the mission and identity of the University of Notre Dame. Read together, these essays and addresses by one of the most consistent and committed participants in this ongoing discussion serve to cast vital light on many of the major issues that Notre Dame has confronted in the past two decades.

Throughout this engaging volume, Miscamble’s distinctive voice rings clear. His passion for Notre Dame’s Catholic mission is evident on every page. Also evident is his deep concern for the moral and spiritual well-being of Notre Dame’s students and his deep commitment to the priesthood and to the Congregation of Holy Cross. For Notre Dame is essential reading for all those who love Notre Dame and who are interested in its past, present, and future.

What more need we say?

This week, we are changing the Free Read entry rules. Simply comment either on this post or the corresponding Facebook post to give yourself a shot at winning. That’s all there is to it.

I have my own copy, so will send the book to the president of the University of St Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota. Fr Miscamble gave a 1996 talk there on the role of faculty, perhaps long since forgotten, but reprinted in the book. On some parts of campus, the only thing Catholic is the “St.” in the name.
