IT IS HARDLY new to associate life in a college town college with parties. Nevertheless, as every Notre Dame student undoubtedly knows, the South Bend Common Council plans on passing a resolution September 24th in an effort to limit parties in the city, particularly the noise and behavior that is associated with them.

Notre Dame Students Rock the Vote for 2008

ALTHOUGH THE NEXT election is over a year away, the excitement that accompanies the lead-up to that first Tuesday of November has already begun to build across the nation. Here at Notre Dame, efforts are currently underway to encourage students to become more politically active and better educated citizens.

Mayoral Battle Brings Student Issues into the Fray

AFTER SERVING over ten years as mayor of South Bend, Stephen Luecke has found himself in the middle of a heated election campaign against his Republican challenger, Juan Manigault.  The most recent WSBT/South Bend Tribune poll shows Luecke is holding on to the lead with 44 percent, compared to 32 percent for Manigault and 23 percent undecided, putting either candidate within range of winning the election.

Anti-War Protest Brings Student and Area Activists Together

ON FRIDAY, November 16th, Notre Dame student activists combined with members of the greater South Bend community to protest the Iraq War at the University’s Main Entrance.  The protest lasted from 5:00-6:00 p.m., with a turnout of about 30 people on the blustery fall day.  Protesters held signs encouraging those driving by to “honk for peace.”

Congressman Dan Lungren Recieves '08 Cavanaugh Award

ON NOVEMBER 8th, California Congressman Daniel Lungren (R-03) received the Notre Dame Alumni Association’s John J. Cavanaugh, C.S.C. Award in recognition of his accomplishments as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
